Our projects: Education and Outreach Programmes

The Unit runs programmes on different bomedical research areas, which offer multimedia resources such as videos, virtual experiments, games and lesson plans for teachers and students to innovate in their classrooms by decreasing the gap between research and education and facilitating Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE):


    To promote Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in higher education and transdisciplinary research, that responds to societal needs and expectations. The project will focus on identifying, developing and disseminating good practices in order to train graduates and researchers on RRI.   • IrsiCaixa outreach

    IrsiCaixa Outreach

    A programme on science communication and prevention on AIDS. We believe that by promoting awareness and via educational campaigns, we can all contribute to the eradication of this pandemic.It includes an outreach programme with workshops of experiments, dialogue events and courses for teachers. The programme also offers students the possibility to collaborate in two research projects to study the knowledge students have about the topic. In collaboration with “la Caixa” Foundation.   • Xplore Health

    Xplore Health

    A European educational portal with participative multimedia resources, inviting students and teachers to learn about current health research with innovative pedagogical approaches. The project also offers an outreach program with face-to-face interaction with scientists and hands-on activities. Some of the resources are designed to estimulate debates around ethical, legal and social aspects. It was initially funded by the European Commission and is now directed by IrsiCaixa in collaboration with “la Caixa” Foundation. More information:

  • RRI Tools

    To promote Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and foster a new relationship between science and society in Europe, a “Science for and with society”, a central concept in the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Commission, the new Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020). The project will develop an innovative and creative set of tools aimed at raising awareness, training, disseminating and implementing RRI in Europe.   • Tàndem IrsiCaixa-INS Apel·les Mestres-PCB

    To bridge the gap between research and education and promote Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE), the participation and the social debate among students. It includes implementation of activities in modules of different topics and the participation in workshops of experiments linked to current research. It encourages students to spread knowledge and the interconnection with different societal actors. It is a project of Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera, together with IrsiCaixa, the INS Apel·les Mestres and the Parc Científic de Barcelona.     A EC-funded project bringing together 17 partners from 11 countries with the aim of monitoring public opinion on what citizens expect from innovation with nanotechnologies.
